What key competencies does product management require?

Product management requires a blend of competencies across three primary dimensions to ensure effective management and delivery of products. These dimensions are depicted in this figure:

  1. Business Leadership: This dimension focuses on the ability to lead and navigate the business aspects of product management, including strategic visioning, financial forecasting, and business case development to align product goals with organizational objectives.

  2. Product Definition: This involves defining the product's detailed specifications and requirements based on customer needs and market analysis, ensuring that the product meets expected standards and functionalities.

  3. Product Promotion: Encompasses the skills needed to market the product effectively, including developing strong value propositions, understanding market dynamics, and supporting sales teams to ensure the product reaches its target audience effectively.
